Online Retailer Fined for False Claims Linking to Bondi Terror Attack
An online retailer has been fined for attempting to capitalize on the tragic Bondi terror attack by falsely claiming its owners were directly impacted by the shooting. According to NSW Fair Trading, Bondi United made repeated assertions that its founders had a connection to the worst terror attack on Australian soil, and that the store would donate proceeds of sales to victims and their families. These claims were found to be entirely false.
The retailer sold clothing and accessories through two websites. Bondi United's websites and social media pages were shut down, but shoppers are advised to be cautious of potential new websites created by the founders to profit from the tragedy. NSW Fair Trading warns that other traders may employ similar tactics.
Customers who purchased items from Bondi United's website are entitled to refunds and can file complaints through the official NSW Fair Trading website. The public is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious online activity.
