A shocking story of a disabled man's struggle for housing stability has emerged from Western Australia's far north. Michael McCarron, a resident of Broome, is now facing homelessness after a tragic turn of events.
McCarron's brother passed away before Christmas last year, leaving him with a devastating notice from the Department of Housing and Works (DHW). Despite living in the public housing for over a decade, McCarron discovered he had no legal claim over the property, and the DHW demanded he vacate the premises.
"It's like they're kicking me when I'm down," McCarron said, expressing his frustration. "Going through the grief of losing my brother, and then being told I have to leave my home... It's just too much."
